[Fleurs d`Haiti, 10 Selections de Piano par Ludovic Lamothe Compositeur; Disques Victor]
Yesterday AfriClassical posted “Music of Ludovic Lamothe at Liszt-Garrison Festival and International Piano Competition Oct. 14-18.” We also received a request for the name of a person who could serve as a speaker on Haitian music at a cultural event. Prof. Janet Anthony of the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, in Lawrence, Wisconsin, has made a very informative email comment which addresses both topics, and which we appreciate. She mentions the book Vodou Nation, by Michael Largey of Michigan State University, which is also a principal source for the Ludovic Lamothe page at AfriClassical.com:
“Joshua Russell, a newly minted DMA and professor of piano at Bradley University did his dissertation on the piano music of Ludovic Lamothe. His colleague, and former teacher, John Jost is a long time Haiti hand and knows an enormous amount about Haitian classical music. Michael Largey, at MSU has a great deal of material in his book: Vodou Nation.
“Josh is working on a recording project of Lamothe piano pieces. I was recently at Bradley University taking part in a program of Haitian music to benefit the music camp sponsored by Holy Trinity Music School. The pieces he presented are terrific! Highly virtuosic and colorful. You can hear him at the Liszt-Garrison Festival & International Piano Competition in Baltimore
(http://lisztgarrisoncompetition.org/?q=schedule_2009) on Saturday the 17th. Best, Janet”
