Charleston Gospel Choir: 20th Annual Gospel Christmas Sat Dec 7/Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC November 22, 2019The acclaimed Charleston Gospel Choir presents the 20th Annual Gospel Christmas Saturday, December 7, 2019, 7:30 p.m. at Burke High School Auditorium, 244 President Street, Charleston.

A Lowcountry household name, the Charleston Gospel Choir brings real meaning to Charleston’s musical landscape performing down-home traditional spirituals and gospel renditions including some of the original arrangements performed with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) 20 years ago. Gospel gems include Give God the Glory, Christmas is Jesus Christ, My Help (Cometh from the Lord) and the lush arrangement for orchestra and choir of Unspeakable Gift are among the many jewels that will honor the Choir’s début performance with the CSO.

The performance will be conducted by Dr. Brandon Williams of Rutgers University featuring the Gospel Christmas Orchestra comprised of regional musicians for a rousing celebration of gospel favorites, moving spirituals, and festive holiday arrangements.

“The Charleston Gospel Choir has a long history of ushering in the holiday season, so I am honored to be invited and share in this holiday tradition marking their 20th year,” said Dr. Williams.

“We are honored to once again add to Charleston’s holiday season offerings mixing holiday songs with wonderful regional and local musicians. Gospel Christmas has come full circle now that we are  performing at historic Burke High School as music is a staple of the school’s history,” said Lee Pringle, producer and President of the Charleston Gospel Choir.
