Jeanine De Bique
Sergio A. Mims writes:
Soprano
Jeanine De Bique will sing the lead role in Handel's opera Rodelinda at
the Lille Opera in France on Oct. 4, 6, 9, 11, 14.
The
new production is directed by Jean Bellorini and will be conducted by
Emmanuelle Haim with the period instrument orchestra Le Concert d'Astree.
Happy surely, but few, perhaps, are those who know Rodelinda, one of the most moving heroines of Handel,
sister of Alcina or Ariodante, in the heart of an opera that her
dramatic power and her musical refinement place among the major works of the master. It has not been seen in France since 2002 and we find it today, magnified by the energies of the director Jean Bellorini and Emmanuelle Haïm who found here one of his favorite composers.
Seizing the Pertharite de Corneille the libretto of the opera brings to the center of the games of love and power the child that the original text kept hidden - and it is through his innocent and dreamy eyes that Jean Bellorini exposes the action. A tragedy that sees succeeding betrayals, a resurrection, a reunion, a last kiss, a fatal misunderstanding ... and which will put the noble Rodelinda face choices obviously Cornelian. From the maze of shadows of the galleries to a delightful and hidden place, the director follows the inspiration that made the success of his Rossini Cenerentola: he deploys a fantastic world of machinations and machines, combining modernity and poetry in a revived Baroque tradition.
