An exhibit at Spiva Center for the Arts has inspired a concert highlighting women who have made a mark on history.
Xavier
Moore and Heidi Moore, of Heartland Opera Theatre, will present a
number of selections “Homage to Influential Women.” The program features
music written by women and about powerful women throughout history,
including Joan of Arc and Cleopatra.
“We decided to feature songs
about historical women that feature prominently,” said Emily Larson, of
Heartland Opera Theatre. “Additionally, we wanted to feature composers
that don’t get showcased quite as often.”
***
Xavier and Heidi Moore, who are husband and wife, are also
experienced opera singers. Xavier Moore is the group’s general
director.
Selections in the program include “Ah! Love But Day” by
Amy Beach, Handel’s “V’adoro Pupille” about Cleopatra,” Verdi’s “O
Fatidica Foresta” about Joan of Arc, “Warum Sind Denn du Rosen so Blass”
by Fanny Mendelssohn and “My Soul’s Been Anchored” by Florence Price.
