Queens Museum Sunday, May 14, 4 PM: The Dream Unfinished Activist Orchestra Chamber Concert: Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges & Samuel Coleridge-Taylor

Le Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745-1799)
Arion 68093

Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (1875-1912)

The Dream Unfinished is an Activist Orchestra, which uses classical music as a platform to engage audiences with issues related to racial and social justice. The Dream Unfinished builds awareness for New York City-based civil rights and community organizations through its chamber concerts, annual headline events and presentations, and it champions the works of composers from communities who have been historically marginalized from both mainstream society and the classical music industry. Past seasons have shed light on issues such as police brutality and broken windows policing; the vulnerable intersection of racial and gendered injustice experienced by women of color; and the school-to-prison pipeline.

The Dream Unfinished: Black Excellence will present musical biographies of 18th century Afro-French violin virtuoso and conductor, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and British Creole composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor in the Queens Museum’s Central Atrium.

Performances by Emily Kalish and Katherine Dennis on violin, and Kyle Walker on piano.

Admission is free!

Black Excellence is a part of The Dream Unfinished’s “Raise Your Hand” season, which draws attention to the school to prison pipeline, educational justice, and diverse representation in all levels of curricula.
