On Feb. 12th at 2:00pm, watch 3 of the nation's top classical musicians of color compete for the $50,000 Robert Frederick Smith Prize and the "Sphinx Audience Choice Award" sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.
Special guests include the Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, award-winning artists Karen Clark Sheard and jessica Care moore, and the University of Michigan Men's Glee Club.
The
Sphinx Performance Academy is now accepting applications for the 2017
summer. We will be returning to Roosevelt University from June 30 - July
14, 2017, and we're excited to announce a new partnership with the
Cleveland Institute of Music and Case Western Reserve University. They
will be hosting this summer's session from July 23 - August 6, 2017.
Application deadline is Wednesday, April 12, 2017

To commemorate Sphinx's 20th Anniversary of transforming

committed special support to our mission and music education programs!
Since Sphinx's inception in 1998, MASCO has been a valued partner
in ensuring access to the arts and arts education in underserved and
underrepresented communities. Their philosophy around philanthropic
activities and engagement has enabled Sphinx to reach over 100,000
students, and give over $2.5M in scholarships to students and musicians.

Abdullah will conduct the program, which includes the world premiere
of a yet-unnamed piece composed by Blanchard marking the 50th
anniversary of Detroit's tumultuous summer of 1967, as well as Jeffrey
Mumford's cello concerto titled of fields unfolding...echoing depths of resonant light.
Cellist Christine Lamprea, First Prize winner of the 2013 Sphinx
Competition, joins the DSO as guest soloist for the cello concerto.

announced CD "Rachmaninoff: Complete Works & Transcriptions for
Violin & Piano" official release by Bridge Records in February!
An
annual two-week-long workshop for exceptional young string players
aged 15-22 that combines personalized musical education with the freedom
to explore a stronger sense of bodily, mental, and emotional awareness
through the daily practice of yoga. Intermission Sessions is the
first-ever music festival placing equal importance on both physical and
mental discipline in a safe and supportive environment, founded by two
active performing violinists who have personally experienced the
benefits of incorporating yoga into their lives and performing careers
for over seven years.

- Epongue Ekille has been accepted to Yale University, was one of the winners of the Rochester Philharmonic Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, and has been selected to be a member of the First Violin section of the 2017 NAfME All-Eastern Orchestra!
- SPA Quartet, the Perfect Fourth, performed with Black Violin at the National Association of Music Merchants on January 21st in Anaheim, CA
