GEORGIA LASTER branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians presented their 20th annual SPOTLIGHT on YOUTH TALENT SHOWCASE at Crenshaw United Methodist Church, Los Angeles, Sunday December 18, 2016. With apology to the eleven (9) talented young jazz and classical artists demonstrating instrumental or vocal skills, this commentary is to acknowledge the Spotlight on Youth Committee members. Dorthy M. Jackson-Hayes-Chairperson, Gloria Lindsay-co-chair, Fred Johnson, Sandra Wheeler, Dera Tatum, James S Bryant, Yolanda West, Henrietta Fortson (President of GLB), Frederick Jackson (and others).

Each performing artist received a stipend for their SPOTLIGHT performance. Donations do not cover expenses and volunteer Committee members also donate money to meet expenses of the program. Georgia Laster branch SPOTLIGHT on YOUTH TALENT SHOWCASE is an annual event and I invite everyone to attend next year. The 2016 program included professional soprano Jennifer Lindsay and accomplished USC violin recording artist Annelle Kazumi Gregory.

See pic of Dorothy M. Jackson-Hayes, SPOTLIGHT chair for 20 consecutive years. I was privileged to sit next to Dorothy during the 2016 SPOTLIGHT program and the reception. Annelle Kazumi Gregory gave both of us  a Christmas present at the reception. Thank you Annelle. http://annelleviolin.com/
