Bogota, Apr 18 (Prensa Latina) Cuban instrumentalist and composer Leo
Brouwer is one of the luxury artists who will perform at the
International Guitar Festival to be held from July 25 to 30 in the
Colombian city of Cali, confirmed their coordinators.
The music festival will have the attendance of orchestras from the
Caribbean island, Spain, Venezuela and the host country, told Prensa
Latina the director of the event Laura Velázquez.
Besides
directing three of the orchestras participating in the event, composed
in total of about 75 guitarists, Brouwer will give master classes at the
so called Sucursal del Cielo and Capital of Salsa, which this time will
revere the classical variant.
The festival builds bridges
between Europe and Latin America and aims to become a showcase for that
expressive modality, added Velazquez.
Considered one of the
great maestros in his field, throughout his life Brouwer composed music
for a hundred films including Memories of Underdevelopment, by Tomas
Gutierrez Alea; Lucia, by Humberto Solas; for ballet, Oedipus the King;
and dozens of chamber works, concertos, symphonies and of course, guitar
creations.
The author of Decameron Negro and Elogio de la Danza was the guest of honor in the last Music Festival in Cartagena de Indias.
