World Pianist Invitational Judges’ Application Now Available Online

WASHINGTON, DC (January 8, 2013) - Poised to take its place as the world’s premier international classical piano competition for musicians ages 5-29, The World Pianist Invitational is underway, and today announced that the online application process for judges is now available at www.worldpianist.org.

Culminating with a major concert event on Saturday, June 15, 2013, World Pianist Invitational finalists will have the distinct honor of receiving a personal invitation to perform live at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC.

Qualification standards for judges will be at least consistent with, and generally higher than those of many other international competitions.  Those who aspire to become a WPI judge must complete the online application, including professional references and past judging experience.  The applications will be reviewed and audited by the WPI Judicial Committed.  All sanctioned WPI judges are required to review, approve and sign the WPI Official Adjudication Guidelines and Agreement.   Each judge is paid by WPI for their adjudication services.

The World Pianist Invitational begins as a worldwide online video-performance competition, so the preliminary round of judging will not require travel. Judging for the Internet-based opening round of competition will take place immediately following the April 13, 2013 application deadline.  Judges will receive video uplinks of recorded performances, and be asked to listen to, observe and evaluate the candidates, then produce a written critique of each performance.

Each WPI competitor’s file (including their unique competitor number, the age range and the video file) will be assigned and sent electronically to two (2) certified independent international judges. Judges will adjudicate all of their assigned competitors, complete the appropriate critique and scoring forms online and submit them to the WPI headquarters.  The two judges’ scores will be combined for a total preliminary round competition score, which will determine competitor rankings and identify those who will receive a personal invitation to perform live at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

The final performance round of the competition – the live performances – will be adjudicated by five certified independent international judges.  The scoring process will be similar to the preliminary rounds.  The total of the five judges’ final performance round scores will determine Phenom Laureates’ rankings within their age groups and the amount of the cash scholarship to be awarded.

To ensure the highest levels of professionalism and integrity, the World Pianist Invitational has adopted the established guidelines of The World Federation of International Music Competitions in Geneva, Switzerland.

Founded and administered by the World Pianist Invitational (WPI) Foundation, a Maryland-based non-profit organization, the WPI will award more than $10,000 in cash scholarships to all of the performing finalists.  A registered 501(c)(3) Non-Profit applicant, the WPI Foundation has chosen to focus solely on classical piano music for this competition.
