[Black,
Brown and Beige: A Duke Ellington Tone Parallel to the American Negro,
as played by the Composer and his Famous Orchestra at his Carnegie Hall
concerts; RCA Victor DC 39 (1944)]
On January 10, 2013 AfriClassical posted: 'Black, Brown and Beige' is Live Streamed 'two-week exploration of African-American composers' contributions on 'Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin.'
Dominique-René de Lerma writes:
As
announced here, on 18 February NPR affiliates will be airing two full weeks
dedicated to African American music, on William McGlaughlin's Exploring
Music. Apart from locally produced programs rarely found in some cities, this
marks the first time anything so extensive had been nationally programmed.
Those who have been devoted followers all along will already know when and on
what stations the program is scheduled. The newcomers who listen on their
computer will want to identify the site in advance and, if like me, Google for
other applications on a daily basis, may wish to hold the site as an icon on
Microsoft's Everyday window. While some states appear to have stations that do
not air this program (unlike Guam and Australia!), access is available to most
of us. Please check local listings for scheduling accuracy (in Wisconsin the program
has just been changed from the 7 PM hour which seems generally standard). And
please be sure to write the host, as he regularly asks: comments@exploringmusic.org.
He has assured me that he reads all mail personally.
