Kelly Hall-Tompkins writes:
I
had an amazing 13 months as The "Fiddler"/Violin Soloist on Broadway in
the phenomenal Bartlett Sher production of Fiddler on the Roof. From
that incredible life experience, I conceived of my solo project The Fiddler Expanding Tradition,
the first ever Fiddler solo CD. It has been a wonderful journey to
bring those pieces to life on disc and now on tour, together with my
amazing team of arrangers from the show, Oran Eldor and Ted Sperling, my
wonderful instrumental colleagues from the show, bassist Michael
Blanco, accordionist Joshua Camp and guitarist Stephen Benson and,
special guest on the recording, our brilliant starring actor/vocalist
Danny Burstein. When I started this journey, I could not have imagined
the places it has taken me thus far. I am even more thrilled and
honored to be part of the new documentary film, Fiddler: A Miracle of Miracles
on the 55-year history of Fiddler on the Roof. This film by Max
Lewkowicz and Valerie Thomas is epic and shows much of why Fiddler on
the Roof is so beloved and often performed around the world (every day of the year somewhere
in the world since the very first production!). It was great to work
with Max and Val, Seth Greenleaf, and my Fiddler colleague Michael
Bernardi shooting on location in "the real Anatevka" near Kiev,
Ukraine. You will hear my playing from nearly the beginning,
throughout, both from our Fiddler live show and excerpts from The
Fiddler Expanding Tradition, and actually see me featured on screen
towards the end of the film! I am thrilled to have attended two private
premieres, the first at The Museum of Jewish Heritage and the second at
Lincoln Center where I was also introduced to the audience. Fiddler
continues to touch me so deeply and I am honored to be part of it. I
hope you will go check out the film in a theater near you- it opens
tomorrow!
And I hope to see you at my upcoming The Fiddler Expanding Tradition Concerts
in Seattle at the Edmonds Center on October 12 and New York at St.
Ignatius Loyola on November 15th. (More on those concerts soon!)
Please see below some photos and a link to find film tickets!
Thank you as always for your interest in my career and I look forward to seeing you soon!
Warm Regards,
Kelly
