Introducing the Interactive Map Feature: BlackPast and the World
Today we announce the latest BlackPast.org project, the BlackPast and the World Map.
This map shows the African Diaspora connections to over 200 nations
around the world, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Take your cursor and
hover it over any country and you will see all the entries on BP related
to that nation.

The BlackPast and the World Map
also has breakout maps of the United States, Canada, and Great Britain,
the nations that send the largest number of visitors to the website.
Hover over each of these nations on the world map and you will be taken
to separate, larger maps for each country. For the United States, for
example, you can see BP entries related to each state and the District
of Columbia. New York alone has links to nearly 1,000 entries.
We believe
these maps and the numerous connections they reflect show the worldwide
impact of African American history and what we call Global Africa.
These maps challenge two long prevalent but erroneous ideas that black
history began with slavery and that it is limited to the African
continent and the United States. The world map’s motto says it all: “No
matter where in the world you go, you are never far from Global African
history.”
