Featuring Charleston Gospel Choir and Charleston Spiritual Ensemble
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 26, 2016 Charleston SC—The
Charleston Gospel Choir and Charleston Spiritual Ensemble
will join area orchestral musicians in a benefit performance honoring
the one-year anniversary (June 17, 2015) of the tragic shooting, victims
and survivors at Emanuel African Methodist
Episcopal Church, on Saturday June 18, 2016, 7:00 p.m. at the Gaillard Center, 95 Calhoun Street, downtown Charleston.
A portion of ticket sales from the
Musicians United Mother Emanuel AME 9 remembrance will benefit the Mother Emanuel AME Church Memorial Building Fund.
One of nine events
leading up to the one-year anniversary, this culminating event will
feature moving spirituals, gospel, and orchestrations highlighted by
dramatic arias from lyric soprano Manna JnJoi and
baritone Washington Isaac Holms, under the director of Maestro Chelsea
Tipton.
“The music will
honor our fallen brothers and sisters which for the moment will allow us
all to reflect and work towards healing. The Lowcountry was my home for
many years and I feel a special connection to
this event and am honored to contribute using music to help heal the
community,” says Maestro Tipton.
“Musicians United
brings the greater community together in music and song and renew our
faith in unity and love. The musicians have all donated their time.
Pairing the choral groups with orchestral musicians
and guest vocalists we hope will help heal Charleston and its
surrounding communities,” said Lee Pringle, event producer.
