SONO LUMINUS announces Lara Downes' label debut America Again
Coming soon: America Again, the debut Sono Luminus release by pianist Lara Downes, 2016 recipient of the Sphinx Organization Medal Of Excellence award.
A compilation of American music inspired by Langston Hughes'
poem Let America Be America Again, this is music of a dream deferred,
the dream of equality and opportunity that passes from one American
generation to the next - a tribute to a chorus of voices that spans
centuries: men and women, black and white, immigrants and pioneers.
As Hughes put it in 1938, and still so true in our time:
"O, let America be America again-- The land that never has been yet--
And yet must be--the land where every man is free. Let America be the
dream the dreamers dreamed--Let it be that great strong land of love."
Featuring
music by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Duke Ellington, Aaron Copland,
William Grant Still, Ernest Bloch, Margaret Bonds, Leonard Bernstein,
Dave Brubeck, Bill Evans, Nina Simone, Joe Phillips, Angelica Negron,
Dan Visconti, David Sanford, and others.
