The Morgan State University Choir from Baltimore, Maryland, brings
their own brand of varied, powerful and inspiring music to Cape Cod
Community College at 7 p.m. on March 24.
While the full choir comprises 120 members, this traveling group,
which kicks off its New England tour at the college, is made up of just
40. But according to college President John Cox, the experience is
unlike any other.
“It’s a very rich voice that they present,” he said. “It’s just a well orchestrated event with a high level of professionalism.”
This is the first time the choir is performing at the college, but
Cox had the opportunity to hear them perform in 2010 during another
tour.
“It’s a really great performance, it’s just the way that you take a
cross section of a college community and you put these people together
as a group and what the outcome becomes,” Cox said. “I’ve been really
impressed with their abilities and the single voice that you hear by
gathering all these voices together. … It’s very awe inspiring.”
Cox has been trying to schedule a time for the choir to perform
here. With the group's frequently changing tour schedule there were
difficulties in finding a date for them to play on the Cape. Each year
the choir travels to a different region of the country, and in past
years they have performed in Belarus, Montenegro, Qatar, Oman and the
United Arab Emirates.
