the 150th Anniversary Concert of the Emancipation Proclamation in 2012

The 150th Anniversary
concert to celebrate passage of 13th Amendment - ending slavery in the United
States is a co-production of California State University-Los Angeles and MusicUNTOLD under the direction of
John Kennedy PhD., professor of music composition and chair of the Department
of Music, Theatre and Dance and John Malveaux, president/founder of MusicUNTOLD.
Performance of the Roy
Harris and Ulysses Kay compositions will be Los Angeles premieres of neglected
compositions speaking to American history and culture through large orchestra, chorus
and narration under the capable baton of Chicago based Maestro Renée Baker. See

This concert will be the
first in the nation to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of ending slavery in the
United States and feature large orchestra and chorus performing music by
American composers. Roy Harris and Ulysses Kay were friends and both were
members of the first cultural exchange with the Soviet Union. John Malveaux was
a personal friend of Roy Harris and Ulysses Kay with current friendships
extending to their descendants.
The 150th Anniversary
concert to celebrate passage of the 13th Amendment will also include
performance of the undeniable Aaron Copland's Lincoln Portrait under the baton
of Emily A. Moss PhD., Director of Bands and Director of Instrumental Music
Education for the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance at California State University,
