The West Coast premiere of William Grant Still's Symphony No. 2 in G
Minor (Song of a New Race) was performed by the San Diego Symphony under the baton of
William Grant Still on August 1, 1939. 2014 is the 75 Anniversary. The
San Diego Sun reported "The Still Symphony abounds in appealing melody,
interesting harmonic and rhythmic effects. No observer could fail to be
interested in the novelty and bright colorings of its orchestration".
