Tribute to Suzanne Flandreau, Head Librarian and Archivist, on her Retirement from the Center for Black Music Research

 Suzanne Flandreau

Suzanne Flandreau, M.A., M.A.L.S., has retired from her position as Head Librarian and Archivist at the Center for Black Music Research at Columbia College Chicago (CBMR).  Suzanne was the original archivist and librarian of the CBMR, starting in 1990 and retiring on September 21, 2012.  A Tribute Album was started, but contributions from Suzanne's associates were so numerous that two volumes were needed.  We are happy to post our contribution to the Tribute Album:

To Suzanne Flandreau, CBMR's Archivist and Librarian

As webmaster of AfriClassical.com since 2000 and blogger on AfriClassical.blogspot.com from 2007, I have been proud to introduce Suzanne Flandreau as an associate.  Hundreds of times, over more than a decade, I have told readers and visitors of the resources available through the Archivist and Head Librarian of CBMR.

Quite often, Suzanne has responded to me and the correspondent by email with the necessary information, thus obviating the need for any action on the part of the inquirer!

She and I have routinely copied our emails to other close associates.  The messages have served as an unofficial but highly informative newsletter.

Suzanne Flandreau's dedication to the cause of Black Music has been exemplary for all involved in the field.   I would be remiss if I failed to mention the unfailing warmth she displayed toward both regulars and people making their first contact with the CBMR.

Sincerely,
William J. Zick
