The Department of Music at Princeton University will host its Third International Symposium on the Music of Africa on Friday and Saturday April 17-18 2009 in McCormick Hall. Leading and emerging scholars from Africa, Europe and the United States will explore current issues in African music research. Professor Christopher A. Waterman of the University of California, Los Angeles will deliver the keynote address. Other invited speakers are Zelma Badu-Younge, James Burns, George Dor, Serena Facci, Andy Kaye, Lester P. Monts, Kazadi Wa Mukuna, Carol Ann Muller, Sylvia Nanyonga-Tamusuza, Olabode Omojola, Barak Schmool and Polo Vallejo. On Friday April 17th, Toumani Diabate and His Symmetric Orchestra will perform at McCarter Theatre in Princeton (for tickets call 609-258-2787).
