The Los Angeles Philharmonic 100th anniversary season include a
commission to composer Adolphus Hailstork. The world premiere of STILL
HOLDING ON is Sunday February 17, 2019, Disney Concert Hall.

I asked Dr. Hailstork if the title "STILL HOLDING ON" referenced William
Grant Still. He responded "In a way John. I use motive quotes from
WGS symphony no. 1, but use the word still as a reference to us and
others who have struggled and are coping in tough times."
MusicUNTOLD commissioned visual artist CJ Latimore, https://cjlatimore.com/,
to create a unique award for composer Hailstork that will be presented
during a special event contiguous to the premiere. Date, time, and

An iconic TV or movie moment is often more
than great acting or direction: the right music at just the right moment
can heighten emotions, reveal what the dialogue doesn't, and push the
story forward.
But while the actors who
performed the scene and the musicians who played the song might get all
the glory, there was someone who dug through the record crates to find
the perfect song for that moment. They’re called music supervisors, and Morgan Rhodes is an expert at it. Her job not only includes sourcing the songs for a given work, but securing the rights to use them.
She’s
chosen music for the critically acclaimed 2014 film “Selma,” the indie
movie “Middle of Nowhere,” Netflix’s “Dear White People,” and the OWN TV
show “Queen Sugar.”
Rhodes' career
began when director Ava DuVernay heard an audition of hers for a radio
show. DuVernay then asked if she’d be interested in music supervising
“Middle of Nowhere,” which eventually made it to the Sundance Film
Festival.
“That moment sitting in
Sundance, watching that film with people and having them react to the
music, was the moment I thought: maybe I could do this,” Rhodes said. “I
don't want to have to tell my mother that I went to college for
nothing."

us for the Museum’s 35th annual Kwanzaa event, a celebration of
African-American heritage that is rooted in seven principles known as Nguzo Saba, which promote unity, culture, and community development. Black Comics Collective will do a live drawing inspired by the seven principles. Oyu Oro will
performs music and dance from Afro-Cuban traditions. The festival also
features a local artisan marketplace. Kwanzaa is hosted by Linda H. Humes, scholar and storyteller.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Announces New Broadway Cast Members

Parts One and Two
Producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender announced the new Broadway cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, currently in rehearsals to begin performances on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the Lyric Theatre (214 West 43rd Street, NYC) following the final performance of the current cast on Sunday, March 17, 2019.

James Snyder will play Harry Potter with Diane Davis as Ginny Potter and Nicholas Podany as their son Albus Potter. Matt Mueller will play Ron Weasley with Jenny Jules as Hermione Granger and Nadia Brown as their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley. Playing Draco Malfoy will be Jonno Roberts with Bubba Weiler as his son Scorpius Malfoy.
They are joined by Aaron Bartz, Will Carlyon, Kimberly Dodson, Patrick Du Laney, Sara Farb, Jonathan Gordon, Steve Haggard, Eva Kaminsky, Jack Koenig, Rachel Leslie, Sarita Amani Nash, Fiona Reid, Katherine Reis, Kevin Matthew Reyes, Antoinette Robinson, Stephen Spinella, Tom Patrick Stephens, Erica Sweany and Karen Janes Woditsch along with returning cast members Brian Thomas Abraham, Olivia Bond, Stephen Bradbury, James Brown III, Lauren Nicole Cipoletti, Zoë Feigelson, Jack Hatcher, Edward James Hyland, Joey LaBrasca, Landon Maas, James Romney and Alex Weisman playing a variety of characters.

The most awarded new play in theatre history, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has won 25 major US awards with six Tony Awards including Best Play. It
also won 24 major theatre awards in the UK and is the most awarded play
in the history of Britain’s Olivier Awards, winning a record-breaking
nine awards including Best New Play.
Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a new play by Jack Thorne, directed by John Tiffany.
The production is one play presented in two parts. Both parts are
intended to be seen in order on the same day (matinee and evening) or on
two consecutive evenings, or each part can be seen separately.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is
the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official
Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. The critically acclaimed
production received its world premiere in July 2016 at the Palace
Theatre in London where it continues to play to sold out houses. It
officially opened on Broadway at the Lyric Theatre on April 22, 2018. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
will premiere in Australia at Melbourne’s Princess Theatre in January
2019; on the US West Coast at San Francisco’s Curran in fall of 2019;
and, in Germany at Hamburg’s Mehr! Theater am Großmarkt in spring of
2020.
It
was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now
that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband,
and the father of three school-age children.
While
Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his
youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he
never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son
learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected
places.
