In the world of classical music, African-American composers have often had to fight for even the slimmest degree of recognition. Sunday in East Palo Alto, some fine performers will honor a number of the best (and often overlooked) composers to emerge from the black community through the decades: H. Leslie Adams, Margaret Bonds, Betty Jackson King, Undine Smith Moore, Florence B. Price, Coleridge Taylor Perkinson and William Grant Still. The performers — including soprano Yolanda Rhodes and pianists Josephine Gandolfi, LaDoris Cordell, Deanne Tucker and Jefferson Williams — also will acknowledge the worlds of jazz and blues by showcasing compositions by Billie Holiday, Valerie Capers and Charles Brown. 3 p.m. Sunday, Eastside College Preparatory School Performing Arts Center, 1041 Myrtle Street, East Palo Alto. Suggested donations at the door: $15, adults; $5, seniors and students.
