Hello Morgan Fine and Performing Arts Community,

You no doubt have already heard of the recent $20 million donation to Morgan State University by Calvin and Tina Tyler.  This is the largest donation ever by any HBCU alumnus to his alma mater!

Last night, CBS News featured this announcement during their weekend national telecast!  Of course, I loved the fact that the story began by featuring our exciting Morgan State University Band, but the subsequent narrative was so very inspiring, capturing what it truly means to give back to one’s alma mater.

I did not realize until the very end that the CBS host Jericka Duncan, is the granddaughter of one my mother’s closest friends, Doris Duncan.  Jericka’s father, a Morgan alumnus, Ronnie and I used to sing on the same choir for years at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Baltimore.  Connecting her personal story to Morgan at the end made the entire piece that much more poignant.

See YouTube link below to take in this special moment in time at Morgan!

Best,
Eric
