Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture
Langston Hughes Auditorium
515 Malcolm X Blvd at 135th Street
New York, NY 10037

Our second collaboration with the Urban Playground Chamber Orchestra expands the recognition of Harry T. Burleigh to chart his impact in instrumental music. The concert presents concert spirituals for chorus arranged by Burleigh and William Dawson, followed by instrumental works by Antonin Dvorak, Florence Price, and William Grant Still.
Join us and experience the rich and varied imaginations of Black composers who continued Burleigh's mission to build a classical music style rooted in the religious, folk, and popular music traditions of Black America.
