Ta-Nehisi Coates is a distinguished writer in
residence at NYU’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. He is the
author of the bestselling books The Beautiful Struggle, We Were Eight Years in Power, and Between The World And Me,
which won the National Book Award in 2015. Ta-Nehisi is a recipient of a
MacArthur Fellowship. He is also the current author of the Marvel
comics The Black Panther and Captain America.
Saturday General Session: We Have Voice Collective

In this discussion, several members of the We Have Voice Collective will speak about their approaches, goals, open letter, We Have Voice Code of Conduct, their future initiatives, and will hold a space for ample dialogue with the audience around these issues within.
We Have Voice is a collective of 14 musicians, performers,
scholars, and thinkers from different generations, races, ethnicities,
cultures, abilities, gender identities, economic backgrounds, religious
beliefs and affiliations. Together, they are determined to engage in
transformative ways of thinking and being in their creative professional
world, while being ingrained in an inclusive and intersectional
analysis. Their focus is to bring awareness to issues of inequity,
including but not limited to sexual harassment and bullying, and to
shift the cultural landscape within their community to foster awareness,
inclusion, and the creation of safe(r) spaces for all.
