Hello Fine and Performing Arts Community,

This morning, I attended yet another fine Theatre Morgan Production - Pearl Cleage’s Blues for an Alabama Sky.  This was a great drama!

The story was set in 1930 -  just after the Stock Market crash of 1929, and immediately after the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s.  The story was very entertaining.

The main character, Angel, a professional club singer was just recently fired at the beginning of the play. Throughout the play, Angel is trying to find more work, or perhaps someone to help take care of her. A gentleman from Alabama appears and falls in love with Angel.  The play has many themes including 1) the economic turmoil with artists during the depression 2) family planning and reproductive rights of African Americans during the period.

The entire Morgan cast performed convincingly. Morgan faculty member and director Cheryl Williams gave strong instructions to the actors to capture the spirit of this great stage play.

Last week I attended EVERYBODY.  This morning I attended Blues for an Alabama Sky.  Sometimes Theatre houses produce two productions in conjunction with one another called “in Rep”.   This was a great way to give several of our theatre majors an opportunity to perform on stage.

I was thoroughly entertained throughout the show and heartedly encourage you to attend.

Similar to last week’s show, this show will only be presented for one weekend, through the Sunday, March 4, 2018 3 PM matinee.

If you are available, consider attending this show.  I am sure that you will enjoy every moment of this gripping script.
