May 15, 2017 attended votive mass of the Holy Cross in honor of the life and legacy of FATHER AUGUSTUS TOLTON (1854-1897) First African American Priest in the United States at the magnificent St. John Chrysostom Catholic Church, Inglewood, Ca.. The large ceremonial Latin Mass included Gregorian chant, music from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Negro spirituals, and sacred music of Afro-Brazilian composer Jose Garcia. See pic1 Bishop Gordon Bennett;  pic2 Father Claude Williams (white vestment) from New Orleans; pic3 Father Robert Bishop; pic4 Bishop Joseph N. Perry (without Biretta-hat), homilist and postulator for the Cause of Canonization of Augustus Tolton from Chicago . The choir was located upstairs in the rear of the church. I repeatedly turned to see the source of the angelic voices.
