Julia BullockSoprano JULIA BULLOCK
(A Girl), equally at home with concert repertoire and opera, has been
hailed for her versatile talent. Last season, she appeared as soloist
with the London Symphony Orchestra under Simon Rattle, the New World
Symphony under Christian Reif, and the Orchestra of St. Luke’s under
Michael Stern. In summer 2015, Bullock made her debut with the New York
Philharmonic and Alan Gilbert, and in 2013, she made her San Francisco
Symphony debut in West Side Story, with Michael Tilson Thomas.
She performed the title role in Henry Purcell’s The Indian Queen at
the Perm Opera House, the Bolshoi, Teatro Real, and the English National
Opera, and she sang the lead role in the Berlin Philharmonic’s
Orchestra Academy performance of Saariaho’s La passion de Simone,
directed by Peter Sellars, which she reprised at the 2016 Ojai Festival.
She has toured South America as Pamina in Peter Brook’s award-winning A
Magic Flute. Other opera roles include Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro,
Monica in The Medium, and the title roles in Massenet’s Cendrillon,
Janacˇek’s The Cunning Little Vixen, and Ravel’s L’enfant et les
sortilèges.
This season, she debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the
Baltimore Symphony, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She also appears
as Anne Trulove in The Rake’s Progress at Aix en Provence and as Kitty
Oppenheimer in the BBC Symphony’s production and recording of John
Adams’ Dr. Atomic, conducted by John Adams.
