Dear Friend,
We want to briefly share with you our recent and upcoming significant events.
CutTime Simfonica played last week on the Mitch Albom Show on WJR radio, as well as WDIV-TV (Channel 4) in Detroit. Radio was fun with a generous host as Mitch, but we have this amazing video segment to share with you, featuring violinist Davis West and violist Derek Reeves trading off improvised solos in Pork 'n Beans! (Note: This video is only available for a little while longer!)
The media blitz was to bring out audience for Classical Revolution Detroit's show at Campus Martius Park, which alas was rained out. We will attempt to reschedule, if a cancellation allows, and get word to you.
Also, as a preview for that event, Detroit Free Press Music Critic Mark Stryker had this poetic plug to say about our work:
Under the banner of CutTime Productions, Robinson has been an innovative force in bringing chamber ensembles into nontraditional venues and classrooms, mixing it up with a variety of creative repertoire and generally proving that classical music belongs not on the fringes of contemporary culture but at the heart of everyday life.
And finally, I'm excited to announce the premiere this Friday of new music to accompany fellow Kresge Fellow Louis Aguilar's stageplay, ART AS A WEAPON: Five Scenes of Frida and Diego in Detroit. This FREE premiere takes place at 7p Friday (7/10) in the Detroit Film Theater at the DIA and is part of the annual Concert of Colors celebration.
The 45-minute production includes stills and videos of the famous couple during Rivera's work on the famous mural, Kahlo's loss of her unborn baby and subsequent explosion of expressive passion. The text will be read by several Detroit personalities, including Fox 2's award-winning Charlie LeDuff, rapper Ilana Invincible Weaver and techno artist Pilar Cote!
I hope my music will be well-received and that you will be there to judge for yourself. I reference many disparate styles as I do; from classical to salon, jazz to punk, Jitterbug to Beatles, Wagner to Glass, and Square Dance to fugato. Here is our Facebook event page. Please join us if you can!
Also, Classical Revolution Detroit will be at Mexicantown Fiesta Lounge Thursday, July 16 4p-7 for Happy Hour. See how classical music goes down with $2-3 drinks!
Cheers!
