John Malveaux: NAACP members should IMMEDIATELY request that George Theophilus Walker be nominated for the 2014 NAACP Spingarn Award

The Spingarn Medal is awarded annually by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at the annual National Convention for outstanding achievement by an African American. The 105th Annual NAACP Convention will be held July 19 – 23, 2014, Las Vegas, NV.
 
George Walker is an acknowledged American Master in classical composition. He is the recipient of seven honorary doctorates and he was inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. He was the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize in classical music and he was the 2012 ASCAP recipient of Aaron Copland Award. At age 91, George Walker  is the foremost living and working classical composer in the United States.
 
This is a request to NAACP members to IMMEDIATELY contact their local chapter office and request George Theophilus Walker be nominated for the 2014 NAACP Spingarn Award. The 99th Spingarn Award Nomination Deadline is 12/31/13
