Conductor Michael Morgan has announced a new season for his Oakland East Bay Symphony that will highlight the works of American and Bay Area composers as well as music from the Middle East.

The 2012-13 season opens in the Paramount Theatre on Nov. 9 -- the Friday after the presidential election -- with a "Celebrating Democracy" program anchored by new principal clarinetist Bill Kalinkos performing Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto. Also on the all-American bill are Adolphus Hailstork's "An American Fanfare," Leonard Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from "West Side Story" and "Homework Suite" and "Episodes for Orchestra" by Bay Area composers Gordon Getty and Olly Wilson respectively.
