Yesterday was an
incredible day for us in São Paulo! First, we sang a concert at the
São Paulo Museum of Art which was well-received and musically very
satisfying for the choir and me.
In the evening we visited our sister school in Brazil, Zumbi dos Pamares. Quite surprisingly, given that half of the population in Brazil is Black, this is the only Afro-Brazilian college in the country, only established in 2004. Despite the rigor and length of the day, the Morgan students were so very glad that we made the visit to Zumbi. Although the school was relatively small in stature and resoures, they opened their doors and made us feel very welcome.
At the end of the exchange performance where there their choir sang for us and we sang for them, we had an impromptu finale where we teamed up to sing, "Oh Happy Day!" - a song that is somewhat dated in our country, but appears to be the gospel tune that is known world-wide.
We are very fortunate to have Jay Baker, photographer for Governor Martin O'Malley and my cousin, accompanying us on our tour. Please see attached photographs which are compliments of Jay. More to come . . . .
