[Rick Robinson]
On Nov. 9, 2009 AfriClassical posted: “African American Double Bassist Rick Robinson of Detroit Symphony Leads CutTime Players.” Rick is a long-time member of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. His CutTime Simfonica gave its first concert in May 2010. We recently reported on his receipt of a 2010 Kresge Artist Fellowship for composition. Rick tells AfriClassical of his latest event:
Saturday, Aug. 14 at 6:45 p.m.
The CutTime String Quartet has been invited to perform at the Heidelberg Project's new DOTS Festival (Dancin' On The Street) this Saturday at 6:45 p.m.! We're joining world-famous artist Tyree Guyton to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of Detroit, and that includes classical music!
“Putting a 'funk-town spin' on the classics with me will be life-long African-American music professionals: violinists John McLaughlin Williams and Derek Reeves, and violist John Madison. We'll play a 45-minute set of dance-able music ranging from Mozart to Duke Ellington, to Greek dances and Negro spirituals. Plus, we'll show off my latest hits Pork N' Beans and City of Trees! [Duke Ellington (1899-1974) is profiled at AfriClassical.com]
