The Fort Smith Symphony and conductor John Jeter will give the world premiere of the Symphony No. 4
by Arkansas native Florence Price, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, ArcBest Corp.
Performing Arts Center, 55 S. Seventh St., Fort Smith. The program also
includes Price's Symphony No. 1. Tickets are $40 and $45, $17 and $22 for students. Call (479) 452-7575, Extension 1, or visit fortsmithsymphony.org.
Price (1887-1953), raised in Little Rock, was the first black female
composer to have a symphony performed by a major American orchestra.
Jeter and the orchestra will be the first to record Price's complete
cycle of four symphonies, which it will do for Naxos International, its
fourth project with the label, shortly after the concert.
