The 15th annual Mannes Beethoven Institute will take place May
31-June 6, 2015.
An intensive seven-day seminar will place solo and
chamber works by American composer George Walker (b. 1922) alongside
the music of Beethoven.
Walker's compositions, recognized for their
craftsmanship and emotional power, will be studied and performed
together with Beethoven's sonatas, trios, and string quartets.
Participants are encouraged to bring a Walker work to life with the
same intensity they devote to a Beethoven work of their choice.
The Beethoven Institute is held every summer at Mannes College The
New School for Music and is open to music students and young
professionals.
Applications are now being accepted in the following categories:
solo piano; pre-formed violin-, viola- and cello-piano duo;
pre-formed piano or string trio; and pre-formed string quartet. A
list of George Walker's works suitable for study at the Beethoven
Institute can be found here
(PDF). Any questions about repertoire for the 2015 Beethoven
Institute should be addressed to Thomas Sauer at
BeethovenInstitute@newschool.edu.
Enrollment is strictly limited to ensure that all participants
complete the institute with a deeper musical understanding of
Beethoven and a new awareness of American master George Walker.
Thanks very much, Bill. Best regards. George [George Walker]
