[Nkeiru Okoye]

Composer Nkeiru Okoye, Ph.D. tells AfriClassical:

AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS presents:

The World premiere of my newest piece, BROOKLYN CINDERELLA, and a performance of SONGS OF HARRIET TUBMAN.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011
3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Fort Greene Park
at the Prison Ship Martyrs Monument

To celebrate the annual Make Music New York festival, American Opera Projects programmed a five hour free concert of vocal music in Brooklyn.

They also commissioned a new song cycle from me, which is called BROOKLYN CINDERELLA, and based on poetry of young writers in the Phat Phun Poetry Tuesday Workshops. Additionally, the event features a staged performance of SONGS OF HARRIET TUBMAN, starring Jasmine Muhammed in the title role, and directed by Beth Greenberg of New York City Opera, with accompaniment by instrumentalists from the Noel Pointer foundation.

BROOKLYN CINDERELLA premieres at 6 pm.
SONGS OF HARRIET TUBMAN starts at 7 pm.

The neat thing about this event is that it's informal, so you can wear anything and sit back and enjoy yourself. Click on the link below for more information. Looking forward to seeing you.
