The African American pianist William Duncan Allen was born in Portland, Oregon December 15, 1906; and died in Richmond, California August 19, 1999. Prof. Dominique-René de Lerma, whose email address is dsl@afgconsulting.org, makes this research request:

“I am trying to find out the location of the music materials that belonged to the late pianist William Duncan Allen, student of Egon Pei, teacher of Sylvia Olden Lee, and frequent pianist for most of the significant singers since Paul Robeson.”

Celso Machado is an Afro-Brazilian composer, guitarist, lyricist and singer. The works he writes and performs are played by guitarists in both classical and world music genres. He was born in Ribeiro Preto, Brazil on January 27, 1953. At age seven he began performing in street bands. Machado first performed in Canada in 1986; he moved there in 1989. His many CDs consist of music composed by himself and others. His recordings, compositions and awards are listed at his Web site.”

Celso regularly takes his distinctive music to the world, and is well known for expressing himself through inventive percussion and the sounds of nature, as well as his mastery of conventional techniques. He recently told AfriClassical.com, which profiles him, “My whole reason for writing music is that I know there are a lot of people who like the kind of music I write.”
