Thank you so much for sharing with AfriClassical the news of the special 'An Evening at Carnegie Hall' concert scheduled to be presented by the musicians of the Ben Holt Memorial Branch of NANM at Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington D. C. Friday, June 10 at 7 p.m.

“Not only is it in celebration of the church's 92nd Anniversary, but it also marks the 30th Anniversary of Ben Holt's 1981 Carnegie Hall Recital. In 2009, Jessye Norman recognized the achievements of a wide range of African-American performers who appeared at Carnegie Hall in her 'Honor' Festival. In the program, Ben Holt was listed in the 'Roll of Honor' which listed singers chronologically in order of appearance.”

Ben Holt Memorial Branch of the NANM announces scholarship competition in voice March 19 & 20

The newly formed Ben Holt Memorial Branch of the National Association of Negro Musicians, Inc. announces its local scholarship competition in voice. Contestants between the ages of 18-30 years old pursuing vocal music study are encouraged to apply. The competition will be held in two rounds, the first round on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 4 PM and the final round on Sunday, March 20, 2011 at 7 PM at Sixth Presbyterian Church in NW Washington, D. C. The winner of the local competition will represent the Washington, D. C. branch at the regional convention in April.

All materials are to be sent in as a complete competition packet consisting of application, competition fee in the form of a check/money order made payable to the Ben Holt Memorial Branch and a CD recording including 1 aria and 1 art song.
