86th Annual Black History Month Luncheon ~ February 25, 2012

Washington Renaissance Hotel~Washington DC

On Saturday, February 25, 2012, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) will hold its 86th Annual Black History Month Luncheon at the Washington Renaissance Hotel, 999 9th Street, NW, Washington, DC. Prior to the luncheon, from 10:00 AM to 12:15 PM, we will host a Featured Authors' Event. While we encourage authors whose books relate to our theme: Black Women in American Culture and History to participate, registration is not limited to titles pertaining to the theme.

Our annual luncheon is a national luncheon to celebrate Black History Month.The $40 registration fee gives you access to attendees specifically waiting to hear from authors like you. If you are interested in participating in this event as an author, please submit the Featured Authors' Event Request Form to the address or fax number indicated on the form.

When you participate in the Featured Authors' Event, ASALH will showcase your work on the ASALH Bookshelf at www.asalh.org.

ASALH will be holding our second Local Arrangements Committee (LAC) Meeting this month and we invite you, your friends and associates from near and far to join us.

ASALH: '96th Annual ASALH Conference Richmond, VA October 5-9, 2011 Call for Papers'

The Faculty Directory of the University of Georgia tells us: “Dr. Aldridge is Director and Professor in the Institute for African American Studies and Professor of Education at the University of Georgia.”

Dr. Derrick P. Aldridge is also Academic Program Chair of the ASALH, and has issued this Call for Papers:

“The Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) is soliciting papers and panels for its upcoming 96th Annual Convention. This year's conference theme is: 'African Americans and the U.S. Civil War.' Although the program committee welcomes papers and panels on any aspect of African and African American history and culture, special preference will be given to submissions directly related to this year's theme.

“Using a wide variety of disciplines, this year's conference seeks to explore many aspects of African American involvement in the Civil War, 1861-1865. Important topics include African Americans and the abolitionist movement, African American women and life on the homefront during the war years, African American participation in the military, and African American life and politics during the Reconstruction Era, 1865-1877. In addition, recent popular and scholarly debates over causes of the Civil War will be explored.”
