Alexandria, VA. - June 18, 2020 - Justice
must be fair. Justice must be transparent. Justice must be equal.
Rayshard Brooks deserves justice," said NOBLE National President Cerelyn
J. Davis in response to Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard's
announcement of the eleven (11) charges against one former officer and
three (3) charges against the other officer involved in the death of
Rayshard Brooks. "NOBLE believes in justice by action. The community and
the officers involved deserve their day in court."
Among the charges against both defendants are aggravated
assault and violation of their oath of office. In the charging
documents, District Attorney Howard alleges following the shooting, the
former officer kicked Mr. Brooks and the second officer at the scene
stepped on Mr. Brooks' shoulder as he lay dying on the pavement from two
gunshot wounds in the back. The two officers would wait over two
minutes before attempting to aid Mr. Brooks. NOBLE supports agency
policy that requires officers render immediate medical aid. "The oath
and policy remind us of the sanctity of life and compels law enforcement
officers to do all we can to care for others regardless of their race,
gender, religion, or the reason the officer engaged the citizen in the
first place," said President Davis. "Justice must be served."
