Ancient Nigerian Treasures Remembered in Flute Music

(REVISED - PHILADELPHIA, PA-MAY 2, 2020): The award-winning flute composition Nigerian Treasures in 3 Movements for Unaccompanied Flute composed by Philadelphia composer, Dr. Cynthia Cozette Lee, was performed by the South Florida Chamber Ensemble     at the Florida Flute Association 44th Annual Membership Convention in January, 2020. This original work was written after the Treasures of Ancient Nigeria Art Exhibit came to the Art Museum of Philadelphia in 1982. Inspired by the art at the exhibit, C.C. Lee composed this flute song as a tribute to ancient artworks of Nigeria and received a 1985 College Music Society Composition award.

Nigerian Treasures also received a performance by Irvin Peterson, Master Gunnery Sergeant, USMC, retired, on October 20, 2019, in a concert at the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria. He is a retired long-standing member of the "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, where he served as saxophone section leader. Peterson's 30-year career spanned five U.S. presidents.
