Marouan Benabdallah
Pianist
Marouan Benabdallah was born to a Moroccan father and a Hungarian
mother and was educated in Hungary from the age of 13 onward.
Music
was in his blood since his mother was an established choir director and
became his first piano teacher. His father, a physicist, played the
guitar. Graduating from Franz Liszt Academy in Budapest, in 2008 he was
awarded the Medal of the Hungarian Parliament for his achievements in
music and went on to become one of the most versatile concert pianists
of today.
His
successes have taken him to perform on world's most important stages
including Carnegie's Zankel Hall, Kennedy Centre, Teatro Colon in Buenos
Aires, Amsterdam's Concertgebouw and on tours in Europe, Asia and
Africa, performing with most renowned orchestra conductors including
Lorin Maazel.
Living between Rabat, Budapest, Paris and Beijing, this international artist has played to high critical acclaim.
In
2014, with the support of the Royal Academy of Morocco, he launched
"Arabæsque" - a series of concerts exploring the music of composers from
the Arab world. He discovered 100 composers from countries such as
Morocco, Egypt, Algeria, Syria, Iran, Iraq and Lebanon whose music is a
blend of western classical music and traditional folk tunes.
Marouan
Benabdallah brings "Arabæsque" for the first time to the UK at The
African Concert Series on 1 November 2019 at The Africa Centre London.
