3rd Annual HBCU Alumni Black Tie Gala Presented By XFINITY Sept. 20, 7-11 PM


Honoring Our Alumni and Celebrating the History and Legacy of HBCUs


On Friday, September 20, Xfinity/Comcast and the Washington, D.C. Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance, Inc., will celebrate the history and legacy of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and their alumni at the 3rd Annual HBCU Alumni Black Tie Gala. The event will be held at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and will include entertainment by Loose Ends Featuring Jane Eugene.

Six individuals will be presented with HBCU Alumni Awards, created to honor HBCU graduates:


  • Ms. Iris Wagstaff, PhD, STEM Program Director (North Carolina A&T State University) The HBCU Alumni Education Award, which recognizes accomplished professors, researchers, scientists, secondary education administrators, and STE(A)M professionals.
  • Mr. James McNeil., Founder, CEO and President, McNeil Technologies, Philandrophy, (Alabama State University) The HBCU Alumni Business Award, which recognizes the contributions of business executives, senior management, presidents, vice presidents, business owners and entrepreneurs.
  • Mr. William E. Bennett, PhD, Senior Health Science Adviser to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (ret.), (Lincoln University, PA Class of 1950) The HBCU Alumni Public Policy Award, which recognizes legislative leadership of private and public sector policymakers, government officials, council and board members, and jurisdictional leaders.
  • Ms. Eunique Jones Gibson, Creative Visionary. Cultural Architect. Social Activist., (Bowie State University) The HBCU Alumni Media & Communications Award, which recognizes print and media professionals and journalists in radio, television, social media, and print publications. 
  • Ms. Rosie Allen-Herring, President and Chief Executive Officer of the United Way of the National Capital Area, (Howard University) The HBCU Alumni Community Involvement Award, which recognizes outstanding engagement in community programming for citizens and/or youth, and selfless volunteerism.
  • Ms. Leah M. Williams, Supply Chain Analyst (Delaware State University) The HBCU Alumni Young Alumni Award, which recognizes a recent graduate for notable career achievements and/or community service.
