Stewart Goodyear was born in 1978 and is a pianist and composer with many classical recordings to his credit. His new CD was recorded with Chineke! Orchestra, conducted by Wayne Marshall.
It begins with Callalloo, a work he composed in 2016. He writes in the liner notes that it was influenced by a Carnival he attended in Trinidad. The second piece is Goodyear's Piano Sonata, which he says was written at the age of 18.
The recording concludes with George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue.
Stewart Goodyear, Chineke! Orchestra and Wayne Marshall all perform at their usual high level. We have enjoyed Stewart Goodyear's piano playing for many years, but now we are also taking pleasure in his two distinctive compositions on this disc.
