NAACP: The Young, Gifted, and Black are Heading to Detroit

In a few short weeks, more than 700 of the nation’s top students of color are heading to Detroit to participate in one of the biggest competitions of their lives—NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technical, and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO)—and it’s taking place at the 110th National Convention.

As an ACT-SO alum myself, I have been committed to NAACP’s mission of diversifying the media, arts, and STEM industries, and equipping our young leaders with the tools needed to excel in their communities. For the last four decades, ACT-SO has been the premier program providing thousands of gifted and talented Black students the opportunity to compete for prizes and scholarships as they make their way to college.

All are welcome to attend the ACT-SO Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 21 at 12:30pm as we celebrate the talented students who will join the ranks of Alicia Keys, Anthony Anderson, Lauryn Hill, and Jada Pinkett-Smith in becoming ACT-SO alum.
