Composer
of African descent Carolyn Yarnell, winner of the 1999-2000 Rome Prize
and Italian Fellowship in musical competition shared the announcement
that two women of African descent won the 2019-20 Rome Prize and Italian
Fellowship for musical composition. These highly competitive
fellowships support advanced independent work and research in the arts
and humanities. The two women of African descent will each receive a
stipend, workspace, and room and board for a period of five to eleven
months at the Academy’s eleven-acre campus in Rome. See pic 1 Courtney
