Our Key Changemaker of the Month is our violin student Alia Uffenorde! Alia began her musical studies by playing the piano, and a few years later discovered her love of the violin while taking an orchestra class at school. She now plays both instruments, and says that Dr. Morris has changed her idea of the phrase “Practice makes perfect” into “Perfect practice makes perfect.” Through master classes and other opportunities at Key to Change, Alia felt empowered to participate in additional ensembles like the Tacoma Youth Symphony.

Be a Part of Our Solo String Festival!

Key to Change is proud to present our inaugural Solo String Festival for middle and high school violin and viola students in South King County! This one-of-a-kind festival offers music students in our region a bigger stage, providing not only performance opportunities but also a chance to attend a college preparation workshop, meet professional musicians, and compete to win prizes. First place winners from the Junior and Senior Divisions will be awarded music scholarships for college and will perform live on the radio on Classical KING FM’s NW Focus LIVE program. They will also be honored in a private reception at the radio station with the students’ families, Key to Change board and staff members, and invited guests. Applications are due by Sunday, March 24, 2019.

Join us for an afternoon of performances by current students, plus an opportunity to meet our board, staff, and other members of the local music community. Let's work together to celebrate our students' successes and pave the way for the next generation of young musicians in South King County.

Lorenzo Marasso Master Class

We are excited to welcome renowned pianist Lorenzo Marasso to the Key to Change studio for a master class with our students. As founder of the String Orchestra Project and Bauhaus Records, Lorenzo brings a unique perspective to performance, collaboration, and entrepreneurship in music. Join us for one or both of his seminars with our students!
