Hello Morgan Fine and Performing Arts Community,

The Morgan State University Choir will appear once again with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra in their Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center!  We will sing the world-premiere of Healing Tones by the orchestra’s composer-in-residence Hannibal Lokumbe.

In addition to the Morgan presence on stage as the chorus, I am very proud to say that former Morgan Music major Funmike Lagoke, who was a member of the Morgan choir just three semesters ago, will be a featured soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra in this premiere!  She will portray the role of “The Everlasting” or the Creator.  This piece is the last installment of the composer’s residence position featuring many premieres over the past five years with the Philadelphia Orchestra.  In 2015, the Morgan choir premiered Hannibal's One Land, One River, One People with the orchestra.  The composer was so taken by the voice and presence of our Fumi during our last engagement, that he said that he had to have her as a soloist in his next composition!

If you live near Philadelphia, or you are interested in hearing Fumi and the choir sing Healing Tones, see link below to purchase tickets for the concert.  See attached the cover of playbill featuring Funmike Lagoke as the face of his composition, a pic of the composer, and the Philadelphia Orchestra.
