A YOUNG woman who founded a social enterprise to tackle youth street
violence and an accomplished classical musician who trained the cellist
praised for his performance at the recent wedding of Prince Harry to
Megan Markle, are among the deserving winners of a coveted Variety
Catherine Award.
Temi Mwale, who established The 4Front Project to find solutions to
the street violence affecting young people won a Rising Star Award at
the Variety Catherine Awards, for her work, which has won the praise of
former Prime Minister David Cameron, among others.
Chi-chi Nwanoku OBE the founder of the Chineke! Orchestra, Europe’s
first classical orchestra made up of mainly black and minority
musicians, with whom she regularly performs, won a Variety Catherine
Award in the Creative Industries Award category. Cellist Sheku
Kanneh-Mason who performed at the May Royal Wedding of the Duke and
Duchess of Sussex is an alumnus of the Chineke! Orchestra.
Temi and Chi-chi received their awards during a memorable ceremony at
the Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square, London, last week (Tuesday 13
November).
