"Where Freedom Rings"- A 10th Anniversary Celebration
January 26 & 27 3 pm
Eastside College Preparatory School
1041 Myrtle St, East Palo Alto
Celebrating ten years of music-making together at the annual Eastside
College Preparatory School Benefit Concerts, the musicians of the
African American Composer Initiative and guest artists, jazz greats
Valerie Capers and John Robinson, and the Eastside Choir will present an
exhilarating program of vocal and instrumental music by outstanding
composers of yesterday and today. The program will include favorites
from past concerts, premieres of several new works, and a wide range of
music from this beautiful and powerful repertoire: spirituals, arias,
chamber music, piano music, and jazz. Composers featured on the concert
are William Grant Still, Betty Jackson King, Zenobia Perry, Margaret
Bonds, Regina Baiocchi, Shawn Okpebholo, Joshua McGhee, Duke Ellington,
George Walker, Valerie Capers, John Robinson, and others.
As always, all ticket proceeds are donated to the Eastside College Preparatory School that has graciously hosted all of our concerts in its stellar Performing Arts Center. The AACI conducts its own
fundraising campaigns to cover concert production costs and to commission new works from our composers. Our 2019 concert fundraising campaign is now under way with a dollar-for-dollar challenge grant of $3,000
from an anonymous AACI supporter. With your donations, we can match
this generous grant that will fund our 10th anniversary concerts. Let's
do this!
