Internationally acclaimed trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and educator Wynton Marsalis brings the Wynton Marsalis Quintet to
the Koussevitzky Music Shed on Saturday, September 1, at 7 p.m., as
part of the closing weekend of the 2018 Tanglewood season. The
concert—an incredibly rare small ensemble performance for Mr.
Marsalis—will celebrate New Orleans’ Tri-Centennial
taking place this year. The concert will also include a very special
guest performance by the Ellis Marsalis Quintet, featuring the patriarch
of the Marsalis family, New Orleans-based modern jazz pianist Ellis
Marsalis. As a leading educator at several universities, Ellis Marsalis
has influenced the careers of countless musicians, including his four
musician sons: Wynton, Branford, Delfeayo, and Jason.
